About GreatestSolos

GreatestSolos is an independent guide to the greatest guitar solos of all time. Instead of one critic's opinion, we combine 80 published rankings, from Rolling Stone and Classic Rock to Guitar World reader polls, into one consensus list, and we cue every video to the moment the solo starts.

What we do

• Collect published greatest-guitar-solo lists and score every appearance (method, sources).
• Find the best video for each song and mark where the solo starts.
• Add the story, the gear and the players behind each solo.
• Publish the ranking as open data.

Who we are

GreatestSolos is written and maintained by The GreatestSolos editors. We are not affiliated with any of the publications we cite.

Independence

Some gear and ticket links are affiliate links. They never affect the ranking, which comes only from the published lists and the formula on the method page.

Updates

We add new published lists as they appear and re-check videos and solo start times with every update. The date at the top of each ranking shows when it last changed.
