Lynyrd Skynyrd take J.J. Cale's sleepy, laid-back shuffle and turn it into a rolling boogie that practically begs for a dance floor. The guitar work is shared out, with Ed King, Allen Collins and Gary Rossington trading short, punchy solos, and Billy Powell's piano taking its own turn in the spotlight. Nobody overstays; each break is a quick burst of bluesy licks and bright twang before the groove swings back around. It is a great example of the band as a unit, passing solos like a hot potato while the rhythm never drops. Listen for the contrast between the three guitar voices, and notice how the piano break fits the same boogie vocabulary as the guitars.
