The Rolling People is a long, driving groove, and Nick McCabe turns it into something closer to space rock than pop. His effects-heavy leads swell and smear across the track, using feedback, delay and layered textures to create a huge, shifting sound. He is less interested in conventional melody than in atmosphere and momentum, and the band gives him plenty of room. McCabe's approach made him one of the most distinctive and least imitable guitarists of the era. Listen for how the guitar textures build and recede over the groove, sometimes barely audible and sometimes overwhelming, giving the track its restless sense of forward motion.
