Toumast Tincha comes from Emmaar, recorded in the California desert, and it features a looser, more electric guitar sound than some of the band's earlier albums. The interlocking patterns are still there, but the tone is rawer and the playing more open, with lead phrases that stretch out further. The change of setting seems to have encouraged a slightly freer feel, and the result sounds spacious and dusty. It is a good example of how Tinariwen kept their core sound while letting it breathe differently. Listen for the longer, more improvised-sounding lead phrases that emerge from the groove, giving the track a relaxed, wandering character.
